22. Kate Wiser

Notable Finishes: 7th at Foot Locker Nationals; 5th at Foot Locker Northeast; 1st at New England XC Championships; 1st at CIAC State Open Championships

Analysis: The state of Connecticut -- and high school cross country fans -- may have been in awe of Sydney Masciarelli's rise to a Foot Locker Nationals title last year, but it was Wiser who was the most consistently dominant girls runner against the state's best competition in 2018. And she was an All-American at Foot Locker Nationals, too, finishing seventh overall.

Wiser's sophomore season saw her nine straight competitions, including victories at conferences, divisions and the CIAC State Open Championships, before an impressive win at the New England XC Championships. Each week she got faster, too, culminating with a PR of 17:32.20 on a hard course in San Diego. 

Wiser's spring included a top time of 10:22.24 in the 3,200m at the New England Championships -- a race that, no surprise, she won.
