Trenton Track Club's Athing Mu shattered expectations on Saturday at the Music City Distance Carnival, running the eighth fastest 800 meter performance of all-time against a professional field in Nashville, Tennessee, crossing the line in 2:01.38.
She's now the sixth fastest female at the distance in high school history, just behind Mary Cain, Kim Gallagher, Sammy Watson, Caitlin Collier and Ajee Wilson.
It marks Mu's third race at the distance in 2019, but her first colossal attempt at a fast time and sets a new personal and career best for the New Jersey athlete. It's a new US No. 1 mark and is now one of six athletes to have run 2:01.99 or faster all-time.
