The 4x400m race at the Class 4A boys Colorado State Championships had a huge kick and dive at the line. The team from Niwot needed to place fifth or better to take home the overall class 4A team title.
The final leg of the 4x4 for Niwot got the baton in first but the runner from Durango went out fast and took over the No. 1 spot in the first 100m. Through the first 200m of the race, Durango was in the lead, followed by Niwot and with with Windfield fast approaching. With 100m to go the teams were in the same order, but in the final stretch, the athlete from Niwot hit another gear and pushed hard toward the finish.
Niwot would take the win at the line with a big dive for the finish, hitting the track and clocking a 3:22.86 to beat Durango's 3:23.10. The 4x4 win also clinched the team title for Niwot with 66 points.
