No. 1: Tamari Davis
- - -
Class 1A: Davis will run in 100m/200m, and Oak Hall could add her in the 4x100 or 4x400
Breakdown: Let's be honest. We're all anxiously awaiting what Davis is going to do at states.
This is the same track where Davis, who was beat in the 100m by Briana Williams, let us down to the line in a spectacular duel against the Jamaican youth in the 200m, beating her in a ridiculous time of 22.48 seconds.
Davis is in a league of her own this weekend in Class 1A, with just her blocks, the starting pistol, her lane, the wind and the finish line separating her from her own internal mission. If she can put a series of quality races together, Davis could finish with two more US No. 1s.
But she'll have to really work for them. Williams, who opted against running in state qualifiers -- she instead chose to put focus into qualifying for the World Championships -- currently has US No. 1 wind-legal times of 11.25 and 22.89 seconds from her recent performance at the CARIFTA Games.
How will Davis respond? If we know the Florida athlete well enough, we should see a response here.
But let's be real: This matchup between Davis and Williams is just getting going in 2019. According to her coach, Davis will run at the USATF Senior Championships, too. Could we get this battle at Worlds?
