No. 4: The Girls Class 4A 300m Hurdles
- - -
Class 4A: Emelia Chatfield (St. Thomas Aquinas), 41.15; Rayniah Jones (Miami Southridge), 41.32; Alexis Glasco (St. Thomas Aquinas), 41.43
The Breakdown: There's no doubt this race will feature national-level performances. Let's start first with Jones, who's the defending champion from 2018. Surprisingly, she's the underdog (on paper), but she's also the athlete with the most to gain. This is her final year on the track before college.
Chatfield, though, is the favorite and owns a US No. 2 time at the distance. Glasco, meanwhile, is her sophomore teammate and is probably the third best girl in this race and has the potential to drop a sub-41 time.
All three of these athletes can accomplish that feat.
Only Jones, however, has experience at states in the 300mH. All these factors will make a difference on Saturday at North Florida. But look for Chatfield to set the tone early.
