Every season we ask a familiar question.
Which distance athlete has the best speed over the last lap of a mile or 1600 meter race?
Of course, the precise nature of track and field means that speed doesn't always correlate with a national-best time, but it does indicate what kind of turnover you can expect from an athlete down the stretch. And this year, it looks like we have some pretty good answers.
Based on the data we pulled -- reports for athletes in both the 1600m and the mile (1,609 meters) -- three athletes stood out.
