Theo Woods Does The Work Himself, Goes US No. 1 In 800m
- - -
Over in Virginia, E.C. Glass senior Theo Woods decided to get after it at the Heritage Invitational on Saturday.
Woods, a Georgetown University recruit, engineered and then stuck to a plan that saw him go out in 53 seconds, hit the 600 meter mark at 1:22 and then close in 28 seconds to score a US No. 1 time of 1:50.24. He was 13 seconds faster than the next competitor.
Woods lowered his all-time best effort by two seconds and immediately moved into a conversation as one of the top contenders to break 1:50 in 2019 -- which is a feat that just six athletes achieved last year.
Woods finished his junior season with a US No. 40 mark of 1:52.23.
