The boys 1600m at the Mullen Invitational came down to a thrilling last 100m.
Denver West's (CO) Yasin Sado had battled with Dakota Ridge's (CO) Austin Vancil for the entire race, but with 400m to go the duo ran stride-for-stride. Ultimately, the race came down to the final 100 meters, with Vancil making a last-minute push to try and take the outside lane over Sado.
But Sado wasn't going to give in. He held Vancil off to claim the win in a new PR, Colorado No. 1, and a US top 50 performance of 4:16.24. Vancil's time of 4:16.49 was also a PR and good for Colorado No. 2.
Sado, a high school junior, now holds the top time in the 800m and 1600m in the state of Colorado. Watch the 1600m battle above and check out more from the meet below.
