Analysis: This year the US No. 1 pole vaulter, Washington's Chloe Cunliffe, is not entered to compete, leaving the competition fairly open.
 
Last year's runner-up, Julia Fixsen of Minnesota, will be back and looking to chase after the title. She's coming in with a season-best of 12-5.5, so she will more than likely have to hit a new season best to take the win this year.

The current US No. 2 behind Cunliffe is Virginia's Gennifer Hirata, who has cleared 13-8.25. The next closest behind her is North Carolina's Lindsay Absher, who's cleared 13-6 this year. New York State champ Leah Pasqualetti and runner-up Kaeli Thompson should also be in the mix having both vaulted 13-3 or better this season.
