The boys 1600m at the LHSAA Indoor State Championships on Saturday, Feb. 16, came down to a bell lap kick.
Brother Martin's (LA) Hunter Appleton had the lead heading into the bell lap and it looked like he was pulling away from Fontainebleau High School's (LA) Marshall Buhler. Down the backstretch and into the final curve Buhler never let up relentlessly chasing down Appleton.
Down the home stretch, it was neck and neck and with a lean at the line, Buhler earned the win running 4:19.59, while Appleton finished in second just one one-hundredth of a second behind in 4:19.60.
