Girls Future Stars: The Up-And-Coming Names To Watch

Abby Vanderkooi has taken not only the freshman class but the entire nation by storm. Vanderkooi shocked many with her first race of the season when she ran 17:05.10 at the Orchard View Cardinal Invitational. She's since followed it up with many more big performances including a 16:57.65 PR to win the Muskegon Catholic Central Invite on August 25. The freshman has run four of the top five fastest freshman girls 5K times this year and she's beaten some of Michigan's best. Vanderkooi is ranked MileSplit50 No. 10 and just last weekend she ran the fastest time at the Portage Invitational in Michigan. Vanderkooi ran a 17:22.2 to win the Division 4 Girls 5K.
