Paul Welch of Piedmont High School improved the most from 2017 to 2018. In his junior year, Welch had a 5K cross country PR of 17:09.45 from the Oklahoma 5A-6A State Cross Country Championships. This year he's already run 15:57.10 to place seventh at the Cottonwoods Flats Invitational. Four other guys have also improved by more than a minute including Andrew White of Columbus High School (GA), Habtamu Geta of Bay Area Christian (TX), Jadon Barker of Piedmont High School (OK), and Samuel Kellum of St. Martin's Episcopal (LA).
