Athlete: London Culbreath
Year: Junior, Class of 2020
School: McKinney North (TX)
Analysis: The Class of Texas, Culbreath is headed into her junior season with a lot of confidence. The stud distance talent is coming off a spring track season where she won her second straight 1600m and 3200m titles, scoring a PR of 4:50.26 in the former and a time of 10:40.06 in the latter. She also was second in a career best 4:43.41 at the adidas Boost Boston Games mile, was sixth at the Brooks PR 2-mile (10:03.29) and was second in the 3K at the USA Junior Championships in 9:36.77. Oh, and guess what? She produced a career best 16:44.83 in the 5K on the track in March at the Texas Distance Festival.
This all was momentum after a stellar cross country season that included wins in every single race of 2017 outside of NXN, including her second state Class 5A state title in 16:56 and wins at NXR South, Nike South and the Southlake Carroll Invitational. While Culbreath finished 31st at nationals, there's no doubt she put it all on the line while doing it, and in 2018, that gutsy performance will carry over to much more success. Watch out for the Texan this fall.
