We took a look to see who the next big names will be in the 400m dash when the 2019 season rolls around.
Sean Burrell of Zachary, Louisiana, ran some very fast times in his sophomore season. He finished the season ranked US No. 2 in the 400m with his run of 45.74 from the LHSAA State Outdoor Championships. He was one of only two athletes the entire season to run sub-46 seconds, and he did so four different times.
Behind Burrell, there are several athletes who have run sub-47 seconds, but no one from this past season who could challenge him. Matthew Boling from Houston Strake Jesuit was the athlete who has run times closest to Burrell's. Boling was the UIL Track and Field Championship class 6A runner-up this year with a time of 46.76. His PR, however, came at the Region 3-6A meet when he ran 46.15. Boling was also the third-place finisher at this year's Brooks PR Invitational.
