NBNO Boys And Girls High Hurdle Races Highlight The Nations Best
Both the boys and girls high hurdle races saw some big time marks on Saturday at New Balance Nationals Outdoor in Greensboro, North Carolina.
In the boys 110mH race Kurt Powdar from Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, Virginia, improved his US No. 1 mark of 13.73 (-0.6) to 13.59 (-0.5). Also improving on his US No. 7 time of 13.83 was East Kentwood (MI) High School's Job Mayhue.
Mayhue placed second tying the US No. 2 mark of 13.75 (-0.5). Rounding out the top three was Andre Turay from Hagerstown, Maryland, who clocked in a time of 13.82 (-0.5). In the prelims, Turay ran 13.73 (-0.7) which ties Powdar's previous US No. 1 mark.
The girls race was another battle between University of Oregon signee Emily Sloan and Grace Stark of White Lake, Michigan. We got to witness the two match up just last weekend at the Brooks PR Invitational. In that battle Sloan beat Stark running 13.55 (-1.1) while Stark came in second running 13.61 (-1.1).
This weekend the tables were turned as Stark clocked in a 13.24 (-0.8 ) to take the win over Sloan, who ran 13.36 (-0.8). Shadajah Ballard of Western Branch (VA) placed third running 13.45 (-0.8) while Kori Carter took fourth running 13.53 (-0.8).
Stark also competed in the 100m dash where she placed third running 11.47 (+0.8).
