Four Girls Highlight NBNO 2-Mile Battle
The girls 2-mile at New Balance Nationals witnessed some of the best times in the nation on Saturday. The competition was fierce between Madelynn Denner of El Dorado Hills, California; Emily Covert of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Elena Denner of El Dorado Hills, California; and Kelsey Chmiel, Saratoga Springs. All four finished within five seconds of each other.
Denner took the win running a new US No. 6 time of 10:04.53. Coming in just behind her in second was Covert who ran 10:05.19, then Elena Denner in 10:05.68. Covert and Denner clocked new US No. 7 and 8 times, respectively.
Rounding out the top four was Chmiel, who ran a new US No. 9 time of 10:09.65. The race overall rewrote the national top 10 rankings.
In the boys race, Nick Foster of Michigan was the only boy to run under nine minutes. Foster ran 8:59.46 for a new 2-mile PR, US No. 9 time and the New Balance Nationals win.
