Major Battle And New All-Time Marks Highlight NBNO Boys 4x800m


The boys 4x800m battle was one for the ages at New Balance Nationals Outdoor in Greensboro, North Carolina, on Saturday evening.

The top four teams were all in the mix and only separated by four seconds. The guys from Northport, New York, came in as slight underdogs only having the US No. 11 time in the nation. They ran their US No. 11 time of 7:45.79 to earn second at the NYSPHSAA - NY state champs where they were beaten by Saint Anthony's who ran 7:45.78.

That didn't stop Northport from coming in and dropping a new US No. 5 all-time time of 7:31.6 to take the win at New Balance Nationals. They beat out previously US No. 2-ranked (7:39.28) Green Hope (NC).

Green Hope took second behind Northport running a new US No. 7 all-time mark of 7:32.06. Both teams times are state records in their respective states. The Northport guys took down a 52-year-old record of 7:33.0 the was set by Jackson of Cambria Heights, New York, in 1966. It was one of the oldest New York state records on the books.

Rounding out the top three in the 4x800m were the guys from East Greenwich High School in Rhode Island, who ran 7:35.43.
