"I'm just focusing on getting a good time in the prelims and then coming back and having a good leg for the finals and to go all out and try get the record," Davis added.
Gainesville freshman Tamari Davis continued her spectacular high school season at this weekend'sNew Balance National Outdoor Championships. Davis, who owns US#1 times in both the 100 and 200 meter dash, set a new meet record in the 100m dash Saturday with a time of 11.19s and earning her first outdoor national title. The previous best was 11.27 from Octavious Freeman in 2010 and matched last season by Symone Mason.
"Coming into the race I wanted to have a good start, wanted to execute throughout the race, focus on the finish line, and not look at the clock," she said. That's what I did. It was a great time and I'm excited because I have more 100's to come."
Next up for Davis will be the 200m dash prelims and finals on Sunday afternoon. The only other Floridian to accomplish the 100/200m double was none other than Octavious Freeman who pulled off the feat in 2010 when she ran 11.27 and 23.24s.
Okheme Moore from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, won the boys 100m dash running a new wind-legal US No.10 time of 10.37.
