How high will Sondre Guttormsen fly in 2018?
On Saturday, the Davis Senior High athlete continued to test the limits at Arcadia, reaching 18 feet, 2.5 inches in the pole vault to best his own career best and reset his own Norwegian junior record.
It was also a meet record and new state record in California.
Just last week, Guttormsen had covered a height of 17-11 at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas, setting a new high school division record and an outdoor best. Over the indoor season, Guttormsen pounced for a career best of 18 feet at the National Pole Vault Summit.
The UCLA signee, however, just keeps getting better.
And perhaps with each new pole, Guttormsen raises the bar of what's possible. At the Texas Relays, for instance, he tested out a five-meter pole for the first time on his last attempts, missing a few times at 18-2.
Just a week later, however, he capitalized on that newfound perspective, clearing one new height.
Eighteen feet doesn't sound so unreasonable anymore, does it?
