Oak Ridge (CA) High's Maddy Denner was warming up for her mile effort on Saturday with a robust 3200m performance on Friday on Saturday.
Making a move relatively early on the field, Denner took control and cruised to the finish in a US No. 8 effort of 10:28.32, just in front of her sister, Elena, who followed in 10:34.56.
The effort was a primer of sorts for Saturday's invitational sections of the races, which expect to drop some superb times in the boys and girls fields.
But Denner, naturally, made a good first impression.
