Caitlin Collier has one more meet in March to make magic happen again.
The Stanford University recruit, currently US No. 1 in the 800m, converted on an all-time March best at the distance on March 23 at the FSU Relays, going 2:04.87 to surpass Miami Southridge (FL) High graduate Kayla Johnson, who went 2:07.19 to win the Pepsi Relays on the last weekend of the month in 2017.
Guess what?
Collier is headed to Gainesville now, too. And chances are, it'll be a special race.
Last year, of the 28 girls nationally who went under 2:13 in the month, eight achieved that mark on the last week of March.
At the time, that figure represented a dazzling growth at the distance, but runners in 2018 have come back to earth.
Only 10 girls have broken 2:13 in the 800m heading into the last weekend, with Collier holding a four second advantage over the next fastest lady -- California (CA) High's Alyssa Brewer.
