The Scoop: Marlee Starliper Turns In Star Performance In Pa. And Much More

Josh Hoey Is The New GOAT In The 800

Well, talking about making good on a difficult decision.

Bishop Shanahan (PA) High senior Josh Hoey decided to bypass the PTFCA State Indoor Championship in favor of one more shot of breaking the all-time Pennsylvania record in the 800m at the Last Chance Invitational at Boston University on Sunday.

Now, while Hoey was the defending state champion at the distance, he was also coming off a hard effort of 1:51.49 in the 800m -- in racing flats -- at State College the previous weekend. And his indoor season had been one of unquestioned success. He owns a US No. 1 time in the 1000m and a US No. 2 effort in the mile of 4:07.42.

All signs pointed to another great performance ... if the timing was right.

Not only did the Oregon signee score a state record, but he also posted a new all-time national record effort at the distance, going 1:47.67 to finish second overall. He surpassed Robby Andrew's former record of 1:49.21, which was set in 2009.

The American U20 record may or may not have been broken as well. According to Track and Field News, Donovan Brazier's 1:45.93 from 2016 still has yet to be ratified. Hoey's mark would stand under Josh Marshall's American Junior Record of 1:47.84 set in 1982
