Austin Kratz Runs US No. 10 All-Time 200m At SPIRE Scholastic Showcase


Austin Kratz ran the 10th-fastest all-time mark in the 200m on Sunday at the SPIRE Scholastic Showcase in Geneva, Ohio. The Lansdale (PA) Dock Mennonite Academy senior ran 21.04 for the mark, which ties him as the eighth-fastest performer all-time as well. Kratz is tied with Ryan Clark from Banneker, Georgia, who also ran 21.04 in 2004.

Kratz's time is a new high school facility record, breaking Archbishop Carroll (D.C.) and now Baylor University athlete Maxwell Willis's old record of 21.08. Wills ran that time at the 2016 SPIRE Scholastic ShowcaseKratz's mark is also the fastest indoor 200m time ever by a Pennsylvania high school athlete. Brady Gehret of Altoona Area High School had the previous Pennsylvania record of 21.22, which he set in 2010.


Kratz joins both Brian Herron of Flight400 Track Club and Tyrese Cooper of Miami Garden's Express track club as current competing athletes on the all-time list. Herron has the fifth-fastest performance and is the fourth-fastest performer all-time with his 20.95 from the USATF Indoor Hoover Alumni Invitational earlier this year. Cooper holds the 12th-fastest mark all-time and is the ninth-fastest performer all-time with his 21.05 from New Balance Nationals Indoor last season.

Kratz also competed in the 60m dash at the SPIRE Scholastic Showcase, where he ran a new U.S. No. 2 mark of 6.78. He's now tied with Eric Allen of Bullis School (MD) who also ran 6.78 this weekend at the Dunamis Super Meet. Okheme Moore won the Dunamis Super Meet by running a nation-leading 60m mark of 6.73.
