At the SPIRE Scholastic Showcase in 2017, Oak Park (MI) High senior Cameron Cooper, now an LSU freshman, soloed an impressive US No. 1 time of 1:50.07 in the 800m -- the third-fastest time in prep history -- before he later bested that time at New Balance Nationals Indoor.
He clocked splits of 54-56, though he said after the race that his coach wanted him to hit 54 for the first 400m and 1:47 for the full distance, which would have broken the national record by two seconds!
