Freshmen 400m Dominance
Union Catholic (NJ) graduate Sydney McLaughlin is continuing to crush the 400m. The indoor high school 400m and 300m record holder has run the fastest 400m time in the NCAA and in the world with a leading mark of 51.44 at the Rod McCravy Memorial Invitational last weekend. She also ran a 36.12 300m at the Hoosier Open.
Here's something just as impressive: barely behind McLaughlin is another true freshman in Georgia's Lynna Irby. The Pike High graduate had the NCAA and world-leading mark of 51.48 until just last weekend when McLaughlin bumped Irby down to the second spot. Irby also holds the best 200m time in the nation with her 22.96 from the Razorback Team Invitational.
