You have to go back to 2000 to find another team other than Danbury or Staples that has won an FCIAC title and 2018 looks to be more of the same. The Hatters looked poised to win their 5th straight title. They have a well balanced team that covers almost every event. The Hatters are led by Christopher Cledera who has the top seed in the 55m, Malcolm Going, ranked #1 in the 600m and Nathaniel Llanos, the defending champion in the pole vault. They are also have the fastest times in the 4 x 200m, 4 x 400m and sprint medley relays.
Staples was the State Open runner up in cross county and will be hoping for some big points in the distance events. William Landowne ran the #1 3000m time in the country at the Yale Invitational and the Wreckers have three of the top six seeds in all three distance events. They also have the top seed in the 4 x 800m and Chet Ellis who is ranked ninth in the US in the high jump with a leap of 6'8.
