MileSplit50 Girls Indoor 2018

Rank Athlete/Team Comments
1
No doubts here. LTT continues her hot streak with more 20+ long jumping and a nation leading 23.8 in the 200m. If you took her attempts from Marine Corps, LTT would rank US #1, #2, #3, #4, and #6.

First race and she posts the fastest 60m in the country.
4
Masai Russell is racing in about 1,000 events and competing well in all of them. When she and the Bullis squad start rolling with the A Team in the 4x2 & 4x4, she very easily could challenge Tuohy at the #2 spot.
5
Chmiel is about to voyage overseas to Scotland for one last XC race, but got in a rust buster on the track before leaving. Her 4:54 solo mile ranks #1 in the country. Solid race for an athlete who is still training for longer distance racing.

In the boys rankings, Akeem Lindo went from NR to #7 and Vanessa Watson did the exact same thing. She's US #1 in the 300m, #3 in the 400m, and showing some impressive range, also #3 in the 600m. She's not just posting fast times, but also beating talented athletes. So far this season she has head-to-head wins against Shadajah Ballard, Sydni Townsend, and Alexis Crosby.
8
Ballard is back in action and quickly moves up to #4 in the 300m with her runner up finish to Vanessa Watson by just .03s at Marine Corps. She's been testing the legs with some early 500m races and a 2nd place finish in the 4x55 shuttle hurdles to Bullis at Marine Corps. Ballard and Western Branch aren't waiting around on the relays. They're top five in the country in both the 4x2 and 4x4.

Sydni Townsend hasn't won a race yet this season...so you may be asking why she went from unranked to top ten...well thanks for asking! She's finished second in all three of her races this season. Let's look at who beat her. 400m (Vanessa Watson US #1), 600m (Nyjari McNeil US #1), 800m (Gabby Wilkinson US #1). So Townsend has only lost races to the current #1 athlete in those events. Those are not bad L's to have on your record. Townsend's national rankings are 400m #4, 600m #6, and 800m #12. On top of all that individual success, her team Neumann Goretti are #1 in the 4x4 after winning Marine Corps in 3:52 and #4 in the 4x2.

The Rise of Wilkinson continues. Kelsey Chmiel may have taken away her US #1 mile standard, but Wilkinson responded by beating a strong field in the Marine Corps 800m to earn a new US #1 at 2:10.81.
13
Hinton has wins over Aliyah Taylor, Tylar Colbert, Toshel Goffe, and Talitha Diggs. She's ranked top five in the 300m and 500m. Her Franklin 4x400m is #2 in the nation.
14
Ranking Bullis athletes is becoming more difficult than ranking the rest of the country. They race a ton, they always run well, and they constantly trade places beating each other! For now, Phillips gets the nod as the #2 Bullis athlete behind Masai Russell. She's closing on sub-8 in the 55H with her US #2 8.02 after winning OB Holiday over Russell on Saturday.

Inactive. Stay locked in on MileSplit for the live stream of the Texas A&M Classic this weekend. Jasmine Moore and many Texas athletes will be kicking off the season. This meet always turns into one of the best sprint showcases of the year!

Vanriele didn't have a phenomenal start to the season. She ran a 1:37 600m at Bishop Loughlin for 3rd behind Nyjari McNeil and Sydni Townsend, but she bounced back with a 1:33 at Coach Glynn Holiday to move up to US #2. She has solid range with a 5:04 1600m, which is US #1 in that event (if you don't count the mile). Adding to that, Vanriele finished runner up to #12 Gabby Wilkinson in the Marine Corps 800m with a US #3 2:12. She also beat Katherine Lee in that race, who is one of the top distance runners in the country.
18
Hall is #2 in the 400m through December and one of only three athletes to go under 7.00 in the 55m. If you convert it to a 60m time, she's still top five.
19
Ashley Seymour came very close to joining her teammate Shaniya Hall under 7.00 after winning the OB Holiday 55m in 7.06. That win came just a day after her US #2 24.5 in the 200m behind LTT at Marine Corps and .03s ahead of Masai Russell.
20
Sipsey has been running fast since breaking Cassondra Hall's 200m meet record earlier this season. That 24.64 holds up for US #4 and she's been racing well against tough competition at the Crossplex.
21
Boone's strength this season has been the 60m. She's top ten in the country and has gone undefeated against Shaianne Sipsey, Lauryn Hall, Vivette Green, and Jasmine Griffin. Boone has also been improving steadily in the long jump. She now ranks US #4 with her 19-00.
22
It's been an up and down season so far trading wins and loses, but her last race this weekend was a win in the Hoover Alumni 200m which moves her into the top ten in the country. She also sits at #13 in the 60m.
23
Hall has been competing stride for stride with the other Crossplex sprinters, just doesn't have the win that helps the other girls move up higher in the rankings.
24
McNeil has begun her climb up the MileSplit50 rankings. Her Franklin 4x4 team is at #2 in the country and she's #1 in the 600m.
25
In a highly anticipated 400m matchup at OB Holiday, Aliyah Taylor finished 5th overall behind four Bullis runners. Taylor is still #6 in the 300m and just outside the top ten in the 400m. The team didn't perform up to expectations in the SMR and sit outside the top 20, but Taylor will still maintain a top 25 ranking.
26
Coming off her podium finish at Foot Locker Nationals, Katherine Lee starts her track season with a 2:14 indoor PR in the 800m.
27
Griffin had a tough draw at Hoover Alumni over the weekend. She wasn't seeded in the same heat as the Boone, Green, Hall, and Sipsey for the 60m or 200m. It's a credit to her that her times were close in both races, but the best she finished was 3rd with the merged times.
28
Following up on her win in the Bishop Loughlin 55H, Myers beats the previous US #1 Christina Warren at Marine Corps to now move to the top of the national rankings at 8.00.
29
Lester falls in the rankings but still has solid performances on the year. She won the Hoover Alumni 60H in a US #11 8.98, but has been beaten consistently in the sprints by the now higher ranked sprinters from the Crossplex. She scored 3423 points in the pentathlon over the weekend, which now also marks her as a contender for nationals.
30
Texas commit Kennedy Simon showed she's in solid form. The 800m isn't one of her main events, but she starts the season with a 2:17 indoor PR .
31
Harris was a big part of the Bullis shuttle hurdle relay that broke the Marine Corps meet record. She's just outside the top ten in the country as an individual in the 55H.
32
Colbert ranks top ten in the 300m and top 15 in the 55m, along with her Franklin squad at US #2 in the 4x4.
33
Reale suffers a big drop after starting her season with a 1:38 600m, which is outside the US top 25. I fully expect her to improve and start moving back up the rankings this season. Shen fans shouldn't be worried. She began her indoor season last year with a 1:42 600m and ended with a 2:09 3rd place finish in the 800m at nationals. Will the real Reale please stand up?
34
Kasey Ebb is the final Bullis athlete in the MileSplit50...for now. There are more on the bubble. Ebb had a strong 56.3 400m at OB Holiday and went under 25.0 in the 200m twice at Marine Corps.
35
She began on the edge of the MileSplit50 rankings but has quickly shown she deserves to move up. She's only competed at one meet this year but is already top five in both the 400m and 800m.
36
The first athlete from North Carolina has made it into the MileSplit50! She's US #8 in the 55m AND 60m AND 55H...the #4 60H ruins the sweep...but you get it...she's good.
37
Warren makes a solid improvement, going up 11 places. She lost to US #1 Sophia Myers in the 55H, but still has three times 8.15 or faster. Christina Warren is also #2 in the triple jump and #11 in the long jump. She's only the second athlete to go over 40' in the TJ.

The Paul Robeson relays play a big part in Goffe starting to move up the rankings. They won Marine Corps to take over as the national leaders in the 4x2. She also won the Marine Corps 55m in 7.17 which ties her for US #11.

EXPLAINING MILESPLIT50:

These are subjective rankings of the top 50 athletes across all indoor track and field events. Feel free to reach out to MileSplit via email (travis.miller@flosports.tv) or on Twitter (@milesplit or @TravisMillerFlo)

Here are the attributes MileSplit considered when ranking athletes (in no particular order):

- IAAF points for ballpark numbers to compare performances across different events

- PRs

- Returning indoor track & field rankings

- Significant wins/results in previous indoor seasons

- More weight on "championship" events (I took stats and performances from ALL events into consideration, but championship events are more important at the national level)

- Participation in relays

- 2018 indoor track & field results

- Indoor competition frequency (these are rankings for indoor track & field, not necessarily the best all around XC/indoor/outdoor athletes)
