How's that for a season opener!? 20.95 and 46.43 both good for #4 All Time and both world leading performances. He also PRed with a 6.95 US #2 in the 60m. Herron is now ahead of Cooper on the 200m AT list and just behind him on the 400m AT list. They race head-to-head at the VA Showcase to decide who's #1!

Drops a spot, but not because he's been competing poorly, Herron just had an unreal weekend. Garland ran a US #1 7.88 60H for his third nation leading performance of the year. He PRed in the shot put (54-3), won the OB Holiday 55H/LJ, and hit a new PR in the 200m.

After not having any stellar 200m races during the outdoor season, it was good to see Allen race well at Marine Corps on Friday. His 21.51 is getting close to his indoor PR. He returned to the track on Saturday to move up the national rankings to #4 with his 48.28 400m win at Ocean Breeze. Bullis also won the OB Holiday 4x4 in 3:26.75, which moves them into the US top ten.

Respect is not given, it's earned! Akeem Lindo has been racing lights out all season and makes a massive jump into the top ten. His rankings include #3 55, #3 55H, #5 200m, #2 300m, #1 4x2, #2 4x4, and #1 SMR! Unbelievable start to the season for Lindo and his East Orange teammates. He has legit wins at major meets as well with 1st place finishes at AT&T and Marine Corps. He beat #12 Carlon Hosten at Marine Corps in his US #2 300m race and AT&T in the US #3 55m.

The last time an athlete ran faster than 21.4 in the 200m AND under 34.0 in 300m both in December was...well...never. Based on stats in the MileSplit database, Kratz becomes the first athlete in HS history to accomplish this. He was briefly the national leader in both events until Herron's 20.95. Kratz is now just a few tenths off his outdoor PR in the 200m. He beat Eric Allen by .13s in the Marine Corps 200m. Kratz posted a 21.71 in the prelims, which also would be top five in the country.

Charles Lewis has been running fast this season and running fast consistently. 200m (21.59-21.70) 60m (6.92-6.94-6.98). He's the top ranked athlete in the 60m and beat Brian Herron at Hoover Alumni. His US top five 21.59 came in a win against college athletes at Vanderbilt.

It's been a good season so far for Hosten. His only sprint losses have come behind #7 ranked Akeem Lindo. He has multiple US top five rankings and his team is just outside the top 20 in the 4x4 from a race in early December.

Donovan Louis hasn't been too active since the week one rankings, but won the Marine Corps LJ and proved he can consistently jump 23+.

Excellent season opener for Murray who soloed a US #4 6.96 in the 60m at Hoover Alumni. Unfortunately he wasn't in the seeded heat. Running solo he was just hundredths off the top two times from Charles Lewis and Brian Herron. Murray also competed in the LJ and moved into the US top 10 with his 23-0.5. He actually started his day with a false start in the 60H. Had he posted a solid time there he easily could've broken into the MileSplit50 top 15 in his first meet of the year.

Shoutout to the Uniondale senior for making waves this season to go from off the watchlist to top 20. Currently ranked 7th in the 400m. He has lost both times he has raced in the 400m this season, but each time he was less than half a second back and the athlete who beat him was #4 Eric Allen. Borzor won the Ocean Breeze Holiday 55m to move up to #11 in that event. He's also top 20 in the LJ, has decent times in the 300m, and his squad is #14 in the 4x2.

Green's only race since the last update was a US #11 8.34 60H. The only athlete to beat him in that race was 60H #2 Nasan Robbins.

This week is all about the East Orange takeover. Richardson is US #2 and close to breaking 1:05 in the 500m, has a sub-50s 400m already, and of course a big part of the top ranked relays...#1 4x2, #2 4x4, #1 SMR.

Inactive. The only reason Fuller started so far back was that he hasn't raced much indoors in the past. We received his full indoor schedule, so advances higher in the rankings. He'll open at Texas A&M this weekend and has the potential to jump into the top 20.

Sweet Home

Davis holds steady at 25 though he's in a dangerous spot. His US #5 300m from Bishop Loughlin against some of the top sprinters in the country is what's keeping him here. Since the last update, Sweet Home has fallen outside of the top 30 in the 4x2 and Davis hasn't hit another nationally significant performance. His 34.51 300m is solid, but with athletes like Nick Ramey on the rise behind him, 25th is going to be tough to hold onto.

Nick Ramey had decent times coming into the season, but not great. I guess having Brian Herron as a training partner doesn't hurt. Ramey dominated the 15-16 races at Hoover Alumni. He moves up to #6 (21.86) in the 200m and #6 (48.62) in the 400m. He also PRed in the 60m with a 7.17 after slipping in the blocks, so be on the watch for him to chase after 7.0 in the coming weeks.

By the end of the season I'll be able to spell "Kujdych" without getting it wrong five times first...In a week where most distance runners slipped because they haven't been racing, Kujdych takes a step up. He improved his indoor mile PR by almost ten seconds in a solo mile performance on the 30th. While his 4:23 isn't super impressive at the national stage, he's traditionally been stronger in the longer distance races so it's a good sign to see him moving in the right direction in the mile.

Smith Charles is slipping in the rankings after a 6.57 in the 55m and 22-7.75 LJ since the last update. He's a strong returner in multiple events from last season, but hasn't yet shown the same form. With 7-10 rising sprinters behind him in the rankings, he has to show improvement or they'll speed by him.

Bryan Ahouman was on the Week 1 bubble but jumps into the top 35 this week. Ahouman ran an early 6.34 US #1 in the 55m, but also had some weaker performances in the 300m & LJ. As a younger athlete, I had to see some consistency before moving him into the rankings ahead of more established sprinters. He's now shown improvement every week in the LJ and bounced back from 5th at CNU Winter Frolic to win the Marine Corps 55m over the weekend.

Marche has been pretty consistent in the 60m. He has three performances under 7.10. Just has no performances in other events yet this season so drops after getting bumped down the 60m rankings.

Every week there are always a few athletes I waiver on. I probably ranked, unranked, and reranked Brendon Stewart 15 times. I'd like to see him in a strong 400m race. He had a great (US #9) 4th place finish behind three top 25 athletes in the Bishop Loughlin 300m, but was then 5th in the FIT 500m in 1:08. I'm still not certain if he'll have the range to compete with the best in the 400m or if he'll be more of a 60m/200m athlete indoors. After going through all the early season results, I do believe he deserves to be ranked. What he can accomplish on the track in the coming weeks will dictate whether he begins to move up or slides back to the bubble.

Still top three in the country in the triple jump, the drop comes after some inconsistency in the long jump. Really need to see him get back to 22-23+.

Heyo! We've got the first thrower represented in the MileSplit50. Palermo's US #1 68-7 is close to a 6ft PR. He's shown consistency in the event over the last month which pushes him into the rankings. His position isn't safe though. He hasn't been able to break 50' in the shot indoors. With the season starting to heat up in January, he could find himself slipping onto the bubble list if the shot doesn't see more improvement.

EXPLAINING MILESPLIT50:
These are subjective rankings of the top 50 athletes across all indoor track and field events. Feel free to reach out to MileSplit via email (travis.miller@flosports.tv) or on Twitter (@milesplit or @TravisMillerFlo)
Here are the attributes MileSplit considered when ranking athletes (in no particular order):
- IAAF points for ballpark numbers to compare performances across different events
- PRs
- Returning indoor track & field rankings
- Significant wins/results in previous indoor seasons
- More weight on "championship" events (I took stats and performances from ALL events into consideration, but championship events are more important at the national level)
- Participation in relays
- 2018 indoor track & field results
- Indoor competition frequency (these are rankings for indoor track & field, not necessarily the best all around XC/indoor/outdoor athletes)
