The 3A girls race at the Florida High School Athletic Association cross country state finals saw a down-to-the-wire battle for a podium finish.
Ana Wallace from Chiles Hight School was the undisputed winner as she won running 17:43.42, but it was the battle for second that caught the crowd's eye. In the final downhill stretch, Wallace's teammate, Emily Culley, was in a heated battle with Creekside High School sophomore Claire Openshaw. The two took the battle all the way to the line with Culley winning by a hair -- 18:09.03 to 18:09.08.
Wallace and Culley also helped Chiles take home the team with a score of 30 points.
