One of the nation's top cross country talents has made his college decision.
Sandburg (IL) High senior Dylan Jacobs, a two-time NXN finisher who was 19th in 2016 and 11th at Foot Locker Nationals the same year, pledged to the University of Notre Dame on Thursday, joining another top distance recruit out of Ohio, Zach Kreft, and his in-state opponent, Danny Kilrea. The men's program is coached by Sean Carlson, who's been on the Fighting Irish staff since 2011.
Jacobs, ranked No. 2 on the Flo50 boys national rankings, has had his best cross country season as a senior, posting his first sub-14 time at 3-miles on Sept. 30 while earning four straights at one point and earning his second sectional championship.
Jacobs, who also owns a 5K PB of 14:55.10 from NXR Midwest last year, will vie for his first state cross country title at Detweiller Park in Peoria on Nov. 4, possibly going for a course record in the process.
Perhaps even more accomplished on the track, Jacobs produced an outdoor mile time of 4:09.09 last June at the Magis Miles and owns a 1500m PB of 3:51.99.
He's gone 4:07.57 in the 1600m (at the Magis Mile) and 9:16.70 in the 3200m.
