Cole Johnson of Rockford, Michigan, has verbally committed to run for the University of Michigan. Johnson was the 2016 New Balance Nationals Outdoor Mile Champion, running 4:11.09.
He has the fifth-fast returning 1600m time in the country with his 4:08.60 from the MHSAA state championships, and the fourth-fastest returning 800m time of 1:50.72 from the Midwest Distance Classic. He also has a very solid 3200m PR of 9:16.25 from the Red Hawk Team Invitational.
He was also named the 2016-2017 Gatorade Boys' Track & Field Player of the Year in Michigan.
On the cross country course, Johnson has run a 5K XC PR of 15:12.00 from the 2016 Portage Invitational. This season he placed eighth (15:46.80) at the MSU Spartan Invitational, one of Michigan's biggest meets.
