Titus Winders Earns His Second Straight Win At The Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic

Henry County (Tennessee) High's Titus Winders was back in the win column for the second straight year on Saturday at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Cross Country Classic, taking the tape in 15:24.75 and scoring an impressive speed rating of 187.

A year ago, Winders took this same race in a career best of 15:21.15.

Winders fought off his sophomore teammate and brother Silas, who finished second in 15:47.19, while Centennial's Davis Dove was third in 15:48.76 and West Plains' Ben Stasney was fourth in 15:48.76.

It was Parkway West (Tennessee) High, however, that stole the team trophy, scoring 77 points behind an impressive spread of just 27 seconds between its leader, Matyas Csiki-Fejer (16:18.73), and its fifth runner, Zane Yates (16:45.03), as three runners placed within the top 15 finishers.

West Plains made a case for the win, too, though, came in second with 91 points and was led by Stasney.

In the girls field, St. James (Tennessee) High freshman Presley Miles was first in 18:39.97, scoring a speed rating of 124, while Dresden junior Loral Winn was second in 18:55.98 and Davisess County junior Karlee Hoffman was third in 18:57.81.

Houston barely nabbed a tight victory in the team standings, however, scoring 146 points to West Plains' 149, and needing its fifth runner, Annabelle Leonard (20:52.76), to out-pace West Plains' Megan Donahue, who came in 72nd.

Houston was aided by a strong corps in its middle lineup, scoring a top four in the top 18-26-28-30 places to recover from West Plains' top three in the 14-15-17 position.
