Buena Vista's Rossten Sherlock is one of an impressive array of freshmen already making a difference for their teams.

One of the best things, and perhaps the best thing, about the opening weekend of cross country is discovering the new teams that have burst upon the scene, making their case for inclusion in subsequent editions of the polls. For the purposes of this article, we'll be looking only at unranked teams from the preseason coaches polls. 

I won't bat 1.000 here, but this article will take note of several of those teams. We'll go meet-by-meet here:

Aurora City Championships

Cherokee Trail Girls - CT didn't even get any votes in the 5A preseason poll. That must have had the Cougars chafed in a serious way. They went out and took it out against #5 Grandview and the entire meet field. Even the JV got into the act. Seven of the top 12 finishers in the varsity girls race wore Cherokee Trail colors, and the JV girls could have added a few more top 20 finishes.
