The Miami Gardens Xpress Track Club entered the AAU Club Championships at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex this past week hoping to reach some big goals.
And across competition, they certainly did, watching an array of young athletes set age group records and season-best marks across the track.
But one of its centerpiece performances came in the boys 11-12 4x800 relay when Jaleel Gelin, Dominick Grullon, Mekhi Gammons and Isaiah Scott set an American Youth Record in the event with a final time of 9:02.48.
The relay, which also broke a 7-year age group record at the AAU Club Championships, toppled the former American Youth record of 9:06.50, which was accomplished by the Pacific Coast Shock Waves Track Club team of Mainvielle Alex, Erick Steward, Devin Lainer-Kirkwood and Phillip Jefferson in 2014.
