Kayla Davis Challenges World Age Group Record In 400m

An emerging talent in North Carolina could be making waves nationally soon enough.

Run U Xpress' Kayla Davis, 13, was just .05 seconds away from tying a world age group record in the 400m at the USATF Region 3 Track and Field Championships this weekend in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Davis, who owns a 10-year-old world age group record in the 400m, finished in 53.15 seconds to hold off Virginia's Michaela Rose. Davis was just shy of Robin Reynolds's 13-years-old record of 53.10 seconds, which was accomplished in 2007.

Davis last challenged an age group record last year at the USATF National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships, finishing the 400m in 53.49, which was just off Raevyn Roger's 53.36 in 2009.

Davis has also run a wind-legal 100m time of 11.73 seconds (nwi) and a 200m time of 23.34 (+1.2).

If her performance at the USATF Region 3 Track and Field Championships is of any indication, expect Davis to continue to offer up jaw-dropping performances.
