On Thursday at Stanford University, some of the best high school milers stepped to the line for one last attempt at breaking four minutes for the full mile at the TrackTown Summer Series.
University of Oregon signee Cooper Teare flew to the finish in a winning time of 4:01.92. The St. Joseph Notre Dame (Ca.) High graduate has run 4:00.16 in the full mile and has also run 4:02.56.
Although he was not able to break four, Armijo (Ca.) High graduate Luis Grijalva raced to a huge PR in the mile with a 4:02.64, besting his previous PB by 10 seconds.
Before Thursday, Grijalva's PB's were 4:12 in the full mile and 4:07 in the 1600m. The Northern Arizona University recruit had an extremely strong finish to his senior year as he ran 8:46 to take second at Brooks PR in the two-mile s well.
Look for Teare and Grijalva mix it up with the big dogs in the NCAA next fall.
