Recent Agoura (Ca.) High graduate and Georgia signee Tara Davis continued her torrid track and field season at the USA Junior Track and Field Championships on Friday in Sacramento, producing a narrow win over national record holder Tia Jones in 13.01 seconds. Jones finished in 13.02 seconds.
Davis, along with Jones, earned an automatic bid to the Pan American Junior Championships being held in Trujillo, Peru, on July 21-23.
Davis preliminary round was even faster as she yielded wind-legal (+0.5) time of 12.95 seconds, which is the fastest outdoor time in the nation for a prep athlete this year.
Jones, competing in just her third meet this season after a national title at New Balance Nationals Outdoor last week, recorded two races at 13.35 seconds and 13.02. A year ago, Jones set a national record at USA Juniors, going 12.84 seconds.
