SEATTLE, (WA) - University of California signee Brie Oakley, a Grandview (Co.) High graduate, dropped a new Brooks PR meet record and US No. 2 all-time mark in the 2-mile on Saturday.
Oakley's time of 9:51.35 breaks the old record time of 9:53.54 set by Bethan Knights in 2014.
The mark, although No. 2 all-time, is the fastest ever outdoor high school 2-mile. Mary Cain holds the national record from 2013 when she ran 9:38.68 indoors.
In the same race, London Culbreath, of McKinney North (Tx.) High, set a new freshman national class record. Her time of 10:04.73 was good for fourth overall. The time converts to 9:20.1 for 3K, which outpaces Jordan Hasay's national freshman record of 9:26.32 for 3K and 10:07.56 for 3200m from 2006.
