Reed Brown Leads Four Guys Sub 9 At Texas State Meet 3200m

Southlake Carroll (Tx.) stud and University of Oregon commit Reed Brown led four guys to a sub-nine minute performance in the 3200m Friday morning at the University Interscholastic League Championships. Brown ran 8:58.02 leading sophomore sensation Alex Maier and seniors Daniel Bernal and Daniel Viegra to sub-nine performances as well.

Brown led the majority of the race but pulled out the win in the last 200m stretch with a bit quick, looking smooth and relaxed.

The performance was not the fastest of the year for Brown, Bernal or Maier, but caps off a long string of sub nine performances by both Brown and Maier. The pair has battled since their district meet on April 12th, when Brown ran 8:51.87 and Maier ran his PR of 8:52.30.

Brown's time was just off his 2016 state meet record time and PR of 8:50.43. Last year he won the 3200m just edging out another stud and Texas commit Sam Worley who ran 8:51.44. Worly didn't race the 3200m this year opting to run the 800m and 1600m races insted.

Reed and Worley will face off in the 1600m tomorrow, as Worley will look to defend his title.
