The Scoop: Turning The Corner Into State Championship Month

2. Anthony Schwartz Injured, Shows Character In Face Of Injury, Teammate Tyson Campbell Wins State Titles in 100/200

The nation's best 100m runner was expecting big things at the Florida High School Athletic Association Track and Field Championships.

Ultimately, those big moments never came.

Plantation American Heritage (Fl.) junior Anthony Schwartz, a U18 World Youth record holder in the 100m, was dealt with an injury during his championship 100m final.

It wiped away his chance to repeat in the 100m and 200m, even as he entered those events as the top seed. In April, he ran a U18 World Youth record time of 10.15 seconds at the Pepsi Florida Relays.

But Schwartz didn't quit. He lined up in his championship lane for the 200m final and still remained determined to finish. He was eighth in both races, going 12.93 in the 100m and then 48.53 in the 200m.

All wasn't lost, though.

Schwartz's teammate, Tyson Campbell, picked up the slack and won both titles, going 10.76 seconds in the 100m and 21.35 in the 200m.
