The King of Rhode Island is back! DJ Principe opened his 2017 outdoor season last weekend in the DMR at Penn Relays.
On Saturday he set the track on fire as he ran his first individual event of the season at the Rick Schomp Invite. Principe soloed an 8:16 in the 3K, setting a new US No. 1 in the event. He was entirely in a league of his own. The second place finisher was nearly 45 seconds behind him with an 8:59 finish.
This is coming off a season where Principe opened indoors with a bang and saw him run a blistering 4:04 early. He then followed it up with four-flat mile, making him one of the best high schoolers over that distance in history. With championship season right around the corner, look for Principe to throw down some amazing times to cement his legacy before heading off to Stanford in the fall.
