Caitlin Collier Runs Historic Distance Triple At FHSAA State Meet

Jacksonville Bolles (Fl.) High junior Caitlin Collier pulled the distance trifecta for the second straight season, winning the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m at the FHSAA Class 2A Track and Field Championships, and in doing so accomplished a feat that hadn't been done in Florida since 1978.

She also helped anchor her school's 4x800m squad to win her 4th state title.

On Friday she raced the 800m and 3200m and won both. She set a new 3200m PR running 10:30.39.  The new time beats her old mark of 10:48.02 by over 18 seconds. In the 800 she ran 2:10.65.

Saturday was another big day for Collier.  She raced the 1600m and took the win with a time of 4:50.48 and beat Key West sophomore Nicole Matysik in 4:57.65 by over seven seconds. Rounding out the top three in the 1600m was North Marion's Leigha Torino, who also ran sub-5 minutes and dropped a 4:58.92.

The junior also anchored her 4x800m team to their 9:12.01 victory.

This is the second year in a row Collier has pulled off the triple. In Class 3A, Fort Myers senior Kristlin Gear, a Furman University signee, also accomplished the same, winning the 800m, 1600m and 3200m.
