Jacksonville Bolles (FL) High junior Caitlin Collier ran the fastest 800m mark in the country on Tuesday at the FHSAA Region 2A-1 meet. Collier dropped a second time of 2:05.29 for U.S. No. 1.
She led her team to a 1-3 sweep in the event. The multiple-time state champion took the race from the gun and never looked back.
Her 800m time tops Villanova commit Rachel McArthur's 2:05.42 from this past weekend at the Larry Ellis Invitational by 0.13 seconds. Collier's mark was also just off her PR of 2:04.89. She ran that time in June 2016 at the USATF Junior National Outdoor T&F Championships.
Collier has options once she gets to state: She won the 1600m in 5:14.52, was second in the 3200m in 11:40.81, and was second the 4x400m relay, which she anchored to a 3:58.45 finish.
Collier's teammates also dominated the 4x800m relay. They ran a 9:53.73, just edging out Bishop Kenny, which ran 9:54.08 to place second. Bolles currently holds the ninth-fastest 4x800m relay time in the country with its 9:11.96 from the Pepsi Florida Relays.
