Perhaps we're seeing the rise of Bloom Township (IL) High's Jelena Rowe.
The senior high jumper went 6 feet, 1 inch in the high jump at the Glenbard West Sue Pariseau Invitational on Saturday for the second time in a month, indoors or outdoors, setting a new US No. 1 mark.
In late March, Rowe became just the fifth girl in high school history indoors to leap 6-1 at the Illinois Top Times meet.
But she didn't stop from there. She has competed in outdoor meets in three consecutive weeks since, going 5-10 on April 8, 6-0 on April 15 and now 6-1 on April 22.
Where's the progression taking Rowe?
Her effort on Saturday tied the 13th best mark all-time, though 38 athletes have accomplished that mark or better in the high school record books.
