The University of Washington's John Ross, a graduate of Long Beach (Ca.) Jordan High, broke a longstanding NFL Combine record in the 40-yard dash on Saturday, running a 4.22 second hand time inside Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
The time was .02 seconds faster then the old record of 4.24 seconds, which was set by Arizona Cardinals running back Chris Johnson in 2008. The hand time later became official.
You can watch the video here.
There's no debate now: Ross is the fastest NFL Combine 40-yard dash sprinter of all-time.
The Huskies wide receiver, who was considered one of the big contenders to break Johnson's nearly decade old record, blazed out of his three-point stance and converted through the line. Videos comparing Ross and Johnson's old record in 2008 appeared to show Johnson winning.
However, it later became official. And Johnson congratulated Ross afterward on Twitter.
Ross was not wearing Adidas shoes -- he was clearly wearing Nike -- which means he will not win an island for his performance. But who's in agreement that he should win an island anyway?
You can watch Ross' run compared to Johnson's back in 2008 here.
Ross, who caught 81 passes for 1,150 yards and 17 touchdowns for the Huskies in 2016, had predicted earlier in the week the would run close to a 4.3 second time. His high school career at Jordan High in California showed an ability to get out fast and close.
He had high school PRs of 10.66 seconds in the 100m and 21.56 in the 200m.
But now Ross is a part of NFL history.
The next question: Will his unquestioned speed translate into a high draft pick at the NFL Draft?
Here's hoping that it does.
