Tyrese Cooper, a sophomore from Florida, broke Michael Cherry's 300 meter high school indoor national record at the VA Showcase on Friday evening. Cooper won in 33.03 seconds, two-hundredths faster than Cherry's 2013 mark.
Cooper holds numerous class national records--the 16-year-old is the indoor and outdoor freshman national record holder in the 400 and 200 meters. This is his first outright national record. His outdoor bests of 20.46 and 45.23 seconds, with three years of high school remaining, make him a serious threat to break a few more.
