D.J. Principe of La Salle Academy in Rhode Island made a statement on Saturday at the BU Mini Meet #2 by clocking 4:04.47 for the full mile. The time set a new Rhode Island state record (four seconds ahead of former teammate Jack Salisbury's 4:08 record) and a New England record (two seconds ahead of Thomas Ratcliffe's 4:06 record). Both prior records were set in February of 2016.
Principe is now the seventh-fastest prep performer in the indoor mile. He will race again next weekend at Dartmouth Relays.
