America dominated again. In the 2016 Rio Games, the US of A led the medal count for the sixth time in as many Olympics with 121 total medals. That is 51 more than China, which won the second most Olympic medals in 2016. Of the 121 American medals, 32 of them came from track & field.

Florida and Mississippi finished on top, each state earning a total of five Olympic medals. Texas and Oregon finished next on the list collecting a total of four Olympic medals. California, New York, and Ohio each claimed three medals. Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey and Virginia took home two medals apiece while Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Indiana, Maryland, Pensylvania and South Carolina all won one Olympic medal.
