#5 To the Wire for the W. Who's Walking Away as the VA State Champ?
The Virginia state meet is unlike any other state championship in the nation. Take the 500m dash, for instance. The top two seeds were U.S. No. 3 ranked Josephus Lyles, a World Youth Championships silver medalist and New Balance Nationals champion in the 400m, and Grant Holloway, a National High School Record holder in the 55m hurdles and U.S. top ranked athlete in that event as well as the flat 55m dash, 500m, high jump and long jump. So who's the favorite? The next time they step on the track, who knows? But at the Virginia state meet, Holloway took a narrow 'W' as he and Josephus both ran under the Meet Record with the new U.S. No. 1 and 2 times of 1:03.35 and 1:03.36.
