3A Region 3 is one of the most dramatically altered regions in the state, regardless of classification. Ties to history will be slim here.
One thing we can say about the newly-configured region, however, is that it has a distinctly DPS flavor to it. That comes from having Denver North, Denver West, Northfield, and DSST: Stapleton all on the roster of teams. It's odd to think of DPS schools as 3A schools, but such is the nature of the changes in enrollments we're seeing all around the state.
Several of the teams in the region are brand-new or at least very new to cross country. So, there's a limited amount of data to work with for this article. Still, we'll forge ahead as best we can. We begin with a virtual meet of returning runners from last fall:
